Coastal Bend Green Built (CBGB), a program administered by the Coastal Bend Home Builders Association, has announced it is offering financial assistance to college students as a scholarship for those pursuing a degree in a construction-related field of study. The CBGB is offering scholarships to support and encourage the growth of Texas’s construction workforce.

Applicants must be residents of the Coastal Bend area, and must have a high school diploma, or GED, and attending a college, university, or post-secondary vocational school with a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average. The CBGB scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a student’s academic achievements, extracurricular activities, community service, and history of employment. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a panel of  CBGB members.

The Coastal Bend Green Built Initiative, a high-performance home program of the Coastal Bend Home Builders Association, is a voluntary partnership of local home builders, industry supporters, and sponsors who are committed to creating awareness and interest in the construction of high-performance, low impact sustainable homes in the Coastal Bend area.

Homes certified in the CBGB program will use significantly less energy, resulting in lower utility bills, and will also use less water. More importantly, the Green Built certification means the builder used renewable products and construction practices that reduce the size of the home’s carbon footprint, helping to protect our earth’s natural resources and promoting a cleaner environment and a more sustainable future for our children.

For more information about the CBGB scholarships, contact Kalli Larsen, Coastal Bend Home Builders Association, at (361) 991-3034.
