Jackie Azalli, founder of Jackie Homes, has some unusual roots in construction. She was born and raised in England, and after meeting and marrying her husband, Rey Azalli, they both lived and did remodeling work there. However, Rey had various family members who were established in commercial and residential construction in Corpus Christi, Texas, so they decided to move to the US—even though it was a difficult decision for her because she loved England. Little did she know, at the time, that a new passion was waiting for her in Texas– building new homes.
In 2008, Jackie had a dream to design and build on her own, so she founded Jackie Homes and began building her first home. With her husband’s family as mentors, she built one home, then two, then four—and, as they say, “the rest is history.”
Jackie learned every facet of the home-building process and quickly learned the business, earning the respect of co-workers and contractors along the way. She doesn’t remember running into any particular problems or issues because of her gender in the construction industry. “Nothing stands out as having been an issue for me because I was a woman,” she says. “I was very aware that I was in a male-dominated industry, but as in any industry, if you give respect, you’ll get respect. And I’ve always made it a point to treat all of my contractors, employees—and especially my customers—with respect,” she adds.

I’m thankful for… having the opportunity to do what I do. Building a new home is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that I have put heart and soul into that home every step of the way from foundation to insulation, from paint to granite and backsplash—this brings with it a fantastic sense of achievement.
What makes us stand out… is we like to “envision” living in a home before anyone else does. We want the home to be beautiful, inviting, and comfortable. We look closely at the functionality of the home. I ask myself, “Where will I plug in my vacuum cleaner or my iron; where will the kids put their backpacks and shoes when they come in; is this shower easily cleaned?” I believe that if I want to live in that house, then someone else may want to live in that house.
I love what I do because… I get to play ‘House’ every day: I draw houses, direct trucks, watch frames go up, and roofs go on. I choose colors, paint walls, and run around all day, and, best of all, I get to watch the faces of the new owners as I hand over the keys and they open the door to their new home…. Incredible!
The nicest testimonial I received …was when a lady bought a home from me several years ago. A few months ago, she sought me out to buy another home, saying that she had loved the home I had built for her. Recently, the daughter-in-law of this lady called me and said, “I would like you to build my new home.” The best compliment I can ever receive is a referral.
I learned the hard way… that there is only one way to learn, and that’s “the hard way.” I believe that we should be life-long learners and that we have to work very hard to achieve the knowledge and skills necessary to enable us to do our jobs well. I also believe that we all make mistakes, but we need to be allowed to make our own mistakes, take ownership of those mistakes, learn from them, and understand that most things are fixable.
The secret of our Company’s success… are the people we work with. Along with my sales and administrative staff, our “Subs” are incredible. We have worked with some of the same sub-contractors since the very beginning, and others for many years. I also work with amazing people in my financial institutions; they have shown incredible belief in our company. Surrounding ourselves with smart and dedicated professionals is absolutely essential. When you strive for high standards and strong work ethics and you surround yourself with those who strive for the same, when they understand your standards and expectations, when you have mutual respect and trust…. This all is a recipe for success.
Our goal is… to endeavor to build quality, beautiful, and functional homes. To strive for energy efficiency and affordability. To go above and beyond in our approach to customer service, to create new homes in new communities…a place where people love to call home.
The thing I am most proud of… is finding a new home! Not being a native of Corpus Christi, I am proud that it is my adoptive home. I am proud to be a member of the community and to be able to serve that community by building new homes for the people in Corpus Christi whom I am proud to call friends. I am proud that I have found my home in this marvelous city.
