SkillsUSA Texas Brings State Competition to Corpus Christi
Over 7,000 high school students and advisors participated in the annual state-level SkillsUSA Texas Championships in Corpus Christi on April 6th & 7th, 2018. SkillsUSA Texas is part of SkillsUSA, an organization that brings teachers, students, and industry professionals together to facilitate and ensure that the country’s future will grow with a skilled labor force. SkillsUSA is focused on preparing students for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations. Students learn strong leadership and effective communication skills as well as teamwork, making them “Job Ready – Day One” and giving them a competitive advantage in the workplace.
SkillsUSA Texas’s annual state competition in Corpus Christi brought in champions from local and regional competitions from all over the state to compete for top honors, including scholarships and a chance to continue in the SkillsUSA National competition. The annual state-level championships generally include competitions in more than 200 occupational and leadership skill areas, 75 technical information testing areas, and about 3,000 job exhibits.
SkillsUSA allows high school students the opportunity to experience the professional world in the career field of their choice and teaches the importance of developing good leadership and teamwork skills, along with the rewards that come with having high standards, ethics, and excellence in workmanship.
